All the staff of year 3 are very excited to be teaching your children this year. We look forward to developing your child's love of learning in a range of challenging, creative and engaging topics.​

• Tuesday 14 October 2025 Year 3 study the poem 'Deux petits chaton visitant Paris' This week in French we put our knowledge of greetings into actions learning the poem 'Deux petits chaton visitant Paris' (Two little kittens visit Paris) We learnt the greetings and how to say my name is. Then we decorated some finger puppets and worked with our partners to show our poem to the class.

Year 3 New 2024-2025

• Thursday 12 June 2025 3A's Class Assembly about WWII 3A put on a fantastic assembly all about the Second World War! they showcased all of the fantastic learning that has gone on over the past half term and even impressed us with two songs! It was such a pleasure to experience their beautifully written evacuee diary entries, Blitz artwork and were even treated to some VE celebration dancing. We learned all about what it meant to be an evacuee and also what it would have been like in Britain living through such a difficult time. Thank you 3A!
• Tuesday 29 April 2025 Year 3s WWII Knowledge Harvest We began our new topic on World War II with a knowledge harvest, where the class shared everything they already knew and the questions they’re excited to explore. It was a great way to spark interest and start some thoughtful discussions. The class is already showing lots of curiosity, and we’re looking forward to learning more together over the coming weeks!
• Thursday 20 March 2025 Year 3 explore chocolate! This week has been full of exciting activities for Year 3! We had a careers talk from Mr. Tapper, who introduced the children to the world of graphic design. He shared a wonderful presentation showcasing some of his incredible designs and answered an exhaustive list of questions from the children. We are very grateful for his visit, and I'm sure the children were left feeling inspired. On Thursday, we welcomed a visitor from the Chocolate Museum. The children learned about the history of chocolate and the Mayans’ role in its development. They also used their problem-solving skills to decipher Mayan maths, discovering how the Mayans created a number system using dots and dashes. Following this, we enjoyed a chocolate tasting session, where we had to guess the citrus fruits and spices used in different chocolates. The children also had the opportunity to use cocoa butter and learn about its moisturizing benefits. To round off the week, we celebrated Red Nose Day on Friday.
• Tuesday 11 March 2025 Year 3 explore the art of writing limericks! This week in our English lesson, we had an exciting time exploring the art of writing limericks!
• Thursday 6 March 2025 Year 3 Celebrate World Book Day 2025 In year 3, we designed posters for World Book Day, each showcasing the cover of our favourite books. We added colourful drawings, characters, and fun details that represent the stories we love the most! We had lots of fun bringing to life our favourite characters when we dressed up on the day.
• Tuesday 11 February 2025 Year 3's Safer Internet Day 2025 As part of Safer internet day, we took part in a range of activities that gave us an insight into how to identify scams. We were really good at identifying the common errors that scammers use and how to spot them.
• Friday 31 January 2025 Year 3's Stone Age Cave Paintings Year 3 have been exploring Stone Age cave paintings. We looked at the symbols and animals they drew and how they used line, tone and shape to create this images.
• Tuesday 28 January 2025 Year 3 Visit the William Morris Gallery On Thursday and Friday, year 3 enjoyed a trip to the William Morris Gallery. We explored the museum, drew ideas inspired by nature and learnt how to relief print. We will be putting our fabulous prints up on our corridor display for everyone to see.
• Thursday 9 January 2025 Year 3 explore Henri Matisse We have been looking at the French artist Henri Matisse. We looked carefully at the shapes and colours contained in his art work then we drew it and wrote sentences in French to describe his wonderful work.
• Friday 13 December 2024 Year 3 Create Family Trees For their homework project, the children made family trees to learn more about what makes a community. As they worked, they explored how their families connect to others and how those connections create a sense of belonging. Tracing their roots and mapping out relatives helped them see the different ways people come together and support each other. It also got them thinking about how families, no matter how different, play an important role in building a strong and caring community.
• Wednesday 4 December 2024 Year 3 Finish their Walthamstow leaflets After weeks of hard work, we are so excited to announce that we’ve finally finished our amazing Walthamstow leaflets!
• Friday 22 November 2024 Year 3 Explore Walthamstow In our English lesson this week, Year 3 have been busy exploring the amazing area of Walthamstow and all the cool places it has to offer. They’ve been jotting down notes about the buzzing market, the beautiful park, and even a museum full of incredible art! Now they’re turning those notes into awesome paragraphs to show off just how exciting Walthamstow really is. Want to know more? • Friday 15 November 2024 Year 3 Investigate Local Street Art In Year 3, we have been investigating local street art and discussing its meaning.
• Friday 8 November 2024 Year 3 Consider: 'What does it mean to be a Hindu in Britain today?' In our RE learning this term, we will be looking at the unit title ' What does it mean to be a Hindu in Britain today'. As part of this, we looked at two children, and how they show their faith in God through puja, Hindu worship. We set up a puja tray and used our senses to discuss each of the items and what we thought they could be used for. We then drew each item and wrote about what they are used for.
• Monday 21 October 2024 Year 3 - All about Badgers In our English lessons, the children have been writing a non-chronological report on badgers. They have been focusing on organizing their information into paragraphs. They have included facts about a badger's appearance, where it lives, what it eats, and interesting features like their nocturnal habits or how they live in setts (underground burrows).
• Friday 11 October 2024 Year 3 Learn all about Flowers In year 3 this week in science, we have identified and labelled the names of the different parts of flowers and their jobs. We also looked at the life cycle of flowering plants.
• Thursday 3 October 2024 Year 3 are Programmers! As part of our unit 'We are programmers' in Computing, we have been learning to use the programme scratch. In our lesson this week, we were creating characters and dialogue for our animation. We learned the keyword 'decomposition', which is when you break a big task into a series of smaller tasks.

• Monday 16 September 2024 Year 3 explore are techniques In year 3 this week we have looked at line drawings and how to show movement underwater. We drew different sea creatures and also completed colour washes in preparation for our sea scape collages.
• Thursday 20 June 2024 Year 3 got creative for Sky Arts Week This week, year 3 had a fantastic creative time. As part of Sky Art's Week, the children discussed the theme of connection. They looked at story illustrations and landscape paintings and imagined that they could jump inside them. Then they created doodle landscapes and also looked at changing colour in landscapes.
• Friday 24 May 2024 Year 3 Learn about Shadows In our science learning this week, we have been investigating the best material to make shadows. We were given a brief about Isaac, whose baby sister finds it difficult to sleep at night due to too much light getting in. We were then tasked with finding the best material to make curtains. Through our learning, we discovered materials are either transparent, translucent or opaque. With this in mind, we knew we needed our curtains to be made from an opaque material. We then tested which ones were best at blocking the light.
• Friday 17 May 2024 Year 3 took part in World War II Day On Friday, the children were able to dress up as part of our World War II day. They took part in a range of activities so they could fully immerse themselves as though they were children during this time. They were fortunate enough to have a guest speaker who was a child during this time. Although the children have studied diary entries and letter writing from the perspective of a child, it was great for them to hear first hand the experiences of Rosalie (Mrs Vallance and Ms Mullins Mother). We were so grateful that she could volunteer her time to speak to us. A huge thank you from all of year 3!
• Friday 17 May 2024 3B's Class Assembly 3B delivered a fantastic assembly all about the Second World War
• Tuesday 12 March 2024 Year 3's Science Day - March 2024
• Thursday 11 January 2024 3B Visit the William Morris Gallery This week, 3B had a fantastic time visiting the William Morris Gallery. We explored the museum and saw furniture, rugs and wallpaper that William Morris designed. This inspired us to sketch some of his animal and plant designs.We then used the ideas we saw in the museum to create our own print designs in an art workshop. We learnt how to use a printing press and created these fabulous designs.
• Monday 4 December 2023 3H Assembly || Living together || November 2023 We were treated to an amazing 'Living Together' assembly on Friday where 3H shared their knowledge of what it means to be a part of a diverse community, both within school and the wider school community. They explained that being part of a community is important because it helps us to connect with different people.
• Monday 4 December 2023 Year 3 Research local artists, Zahrah Hussain and William Morris
• Thursday 23 November 2023 Year 3's Living Together project As part of our Living Together project, the children created these amazing family tree research projects at home.
• Thursday 16 November 2023 Institute of Imagination Workshop As part of our sustainability STEAM collaboration with the Institute of Imagination, we had an exciting art workshop in year 3 this week. We used wire, junk modelling, pipe cleaners and collage materials to create balance sculptures in the style of the artist Alexander Calder's mobile sculptures. We even got to share our work over the internet with other schools around the country.
• Thursday 16 November 2023 Geography Services in the Local Area In geography this week, year 3 looked at services in the local area. We then discussed whether we thought these services were essential or a luxury. We also discussed whether we thought services in other areas such as rural areas would be the same as our urban services.
